Enhance your dance at Northwest Dance Network with standalone dance workshops. The instructors will review basics and then introduce each topic in a playful way. Dance workshops allow time for guided practice as well as instruction.

What you need to know:

  • No partner necessary! While you can sign up with a partner, many dancers attend workshops solo.
  • Location: Swedish Club, 1920 Dexter Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109.

Upcoming Workshops

January 19:  Close Embrace Blues

Close embrace is used when dancing to all sorts of Blues music and can be dramatically useful in developing a ballroom Blues aesthetic. In this workshop, John will reintroduce many of the concepts taught at our Seabeck Dance Camp held last November. Those who attended Seabeck will find this workshop helpful as a review and for those who did not, please join John as he takes us through an array of travels and turns while we maintain that amazingly relaxed Blues connection.

Prerequisites: Partner dance experience – no previous experience with Blues dancing required

When: Sunday January 19, 2020, 6pm -8pm

Location: Swedish Club, 1920 Dexter Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109

Instructors: John Lozano

If you are registering someone other than yourself, please tell us that person’s name.

January 26: West Coast Swing – Hitting the Breaks

Whether you attended Seabeck Dance Camp or not, this workshop will have something for everyone as Wren and Scot return to review what they taught there and then add some. In this workshop they will explore with us the best way to find the breaks in the music, and how to show them in your dance. Leads – How do you lead a stop? Or a momentary ‘hit”? Or show what you hear in the music on your own… Follows – What can you do to show you heard a break even if your lead missed it? How can you help the lead to hit a break?

Prerequisites: Confidence with West Coast Swing Moves

When: Sunday January 26, 6pm -8pm

Location: Swedish Club, 1920 Dexter Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109

Instructors:  Wren Newman and Scot McKay
