"Becoming a Total Dancer"
See what other dancers have to say about Seabeck:
Leslie Forsberg: I've been dancing since 1977, back when we had to invade senior big-band dances to have a place to do swing dancing. Over the years I've been to a lot of dance camps. But in my opinion none comes close to Seabeck for the high quality of teachers, the fun mix of different dance styles and just the sheer joy of learning challenging new dances and feeling yourself improve and grow in dance ability. Outside of the dancing, though, I love the way that at Seabeck I have the opportunity to get to know people I see regularly at dances but know only by name. For me, Seabeck is all about personal epiphanies, riotously fun evening dances and sweet moments with new friends.
Jan Lapiana: I'm new to dancing and am thoroughly enjoying it. Seabeck is a great opportunity for me to enhance the skills I've learned the past few months, and learn some new ones!
Heber Farnsworth: I go back to Seabeck every year. It's the only thing I do every year.
It's not strictly the lessons. There are good dance classes available. Not the rooms, which are a bit Spartan. The food is excellent and served well, but there are good restaurants around.
Here's what it's like for me. At Seabeck I'm away from the pressure cooker of life. Immersed in a delightful mix of camaraderie, new ideas, real work and real play. Then after dancing each night, quiet conversation with friends old and new, and maybe traded foot rubs. Bone weary, I wander to bed, reluctant to give up the day.
Oh, and then there's Halloween. Open doors, people scurrying from room to room sharing ideas, costumes and makeup. Have you ever seen makeup applied by committee? Delicious secrets and alter egos. Then a time to be mysterious or whimsical, silly or sensual, daring, dashing or demented.
Too soon I'm driving home, planning for next year.
This year's theme especially speaks to me. For me the epitome of dancing is to be swept along in effortless movement. Two as one, flowing from form to form, bending to the music and mood, open to wherever the current takes us.
See ya there.
Mike Yanasak: I need to improve my dancing skills and this sounds like a fun way to do that. My experience thus far with NWDance has been totally positive and thus I am sure that I will be pleased with the Seabeck dance camp.
Marjie Peterson: I love learning to dance, and I love the connections one makes with others as one learns to dance, so the opportunity to immerse myself in dance and friendship for an entire weekend was one I couldn't pass up. Hope to see you there!
Fred Connan: Has my dance improved because of attending previous Seabeck dance camps? Absolutely. Did I have fun dressing up for the costume dance party and dancing in character? You bet. Did I enjoy talking with folks I have known on the dance floor and finding out about their lives outside of dance? Much fun.
See you at Seabeck 5!
Marel Norwood: Why I'm attending: I'm fairly new at dancing and my goal is to become a fabulous follow and an elegant dancer. In addition to immersion and community, this dance camp seems to provide a way of going into oneself to enhance skills and style, beyond the usual lessons on patterns and techniques.
Susan Weissman: My introduction to NW Dance, and to couple dancing in general, was at Seabeck two years ago. I was lucky to be squeezed into camp after the first night and thrilled to discover such a wide variety of dance lessons. It was an exhilarating weekend of challenging dance, fabulous live music, new friendships -- and all in such a beautiful environment.
My wacko work schedule eclipsed a return to Seabeck last year, so this year I submitted my Seabeck-vacation request 5 months in advance!
